Review Overview – What does Hydroxycut Hardcore Next Gen do?

Next-Gen-Muscletech-Series_01MuscleTech’s Hydroxycut Hardcore series are one of the most well known fat burning brands on the market.

However, Next Gen is one of the newer models and is thought to be the most effective so far of the series.

In a nutshell, Next Gen aims to achieve two things:

  • Burn Fat
  • Increase Energy and Mental focus

From what we’ve come to expect from this range, and the reputation of the company, we figured this would be a pretty positive review.

But we needed to dig deeper. One of the main queries we had when we first saw Next Gen advertised was ‘Okay, but is there appetite suppression?’

And considering the competition this fat burner is up against, it’s a very vital question.

We needed to analyse the ingredients.

How does Hydroxycut Hardcore Next Gen work?

Not so much how it works here but the instructions that are provided when taking Next Gen.

We’ll warn you right now, there are a lot of stimulants in this product.

But if you actually read the instructions it can be quite off-putting. For example:

  • No more than 4 capsules in a 24 hour period
  • Avoid snacking
  • Drink 10 glasses of water a day
  • Avoid using 5 hours before bed
  • Do not use for 8 weeks before next cycle

It’s a pretty steep list. But then we remembered that Hydroxycut was proven as a cause of death for a man in 2009.

Maybe this is some kind of legal requirement – and we’re sure MuscleTech has cleaned up its act since then.

So what about the ingredients?

nextgensuppfacts400mg Green Coffee is always a good sign.

This is the headlining ingredient in Next Gen, and a good thermogenic to choose. The chlorogenic acid helps with the breakdown of glucose in the liver. This gets the body to start sourcing energy from fat cells. Which is just what we want.

Combined with 290mg of Caffeine… in the first serving of the day.

Yeah, we’re not sure about this one. Hydroxycut has two servings of two capsules a day. So throughout the day you’ll be getting 580mg of caffeine. That’s a hell of a lot of stimulants.

Natually caffeine raises energy, focus and metabolism  by increasing wakefulness in the brain by suppressing adenosine. But we think 580mg is too much, there will either be an energy crash or a sleepless night at some point when you play with Next Gen.

There’s 100mg of Coleus extract, but we have questions.

Coleus forskohlii is a herb that can be used as a fat burning supplement, but also to raise testosterone. Evidence for both is shady as there are hardly any studies out there – and in that study 500mg of the stuff was taken each day.

Also if it turns out in further studies that there’s a link between this nutrient and testosterone levels rising, it may be a bad idea for women to take it. Girls, if you’re reading this, take caution with this one.

I mean the Blue Skullcap Extract might help, but 75mg will only get you so far.

Blue Skullcap is a member of the mint family, and is a herb used to treat anxiety. This may have been put in to counterbalance the absolute circus of caffeine in this product. Also studies have only shown that this nutrient relieves anxiety once you’re past the 500mg mark.

In this case Blue Skullcap’s not going to help anyone.

Yohimbe extract is also playing a dangerous game here, 40mg is a bit steep.

At least we know that this product has some appetite suppressing prowess here. Yohimbe extract has been seen to suppress fat cell metabolism and even stimulate fat loss.

However, like all good things there is a catch. Take too much and Yohimbe can have some pretty bad side effects. We’ll get to those later, but what you need to remember that the safe amount of Yohimbe is around 0.2mg/kg body weight. So if you’re a 70kg guy, you’re going to want 14mg… not 40mg.

And they’re fooling no one with the Ophiopogon Extract (25mg)

This ingredient is thought to lower glucose, insulin levels and at the same time promote bodily fluids.

It’s a traditional Chinese medicines, and like all traditional medicines: some work, some don’t. This one doesn’t. The study that’s being clung to is that this nutrient was seen to be effective in one study on rats. Rat studies are a dangerous game as they never fully scale up to humans, as they usually give both similar dosages – but rat’s being far smaller, experience a lot more effects.

The 20mg of Guayusa is another reason to steer clear.

Although it’s not a lot, Guayusa is another caffeinated herb that’s been added to the mix. On top of the amount of caffeine already in the product, dizziness and nausea are to be expected.

Where to buy Hydroxycut Hardcore Next Gen?

This is one of those products that’s everywhere online. But a reliable name to go buy is Bodybuilding.com.

There’s 180 capsules per bottle, and at 4 capsules per day split up into 2 servings. That will last you a month and a half easily.

However, we believe that taking 2 servings a day isn’t spread out enough for a fat burner. Products that are divided up to give 4 doses a day, usually tend to bring better results as the thermogenic side of the supplement is always being topped up and kept active.

Side Effects?

Yes. You will probably have trouble with the caffeine content if you’re new to these kind of products. Maybe even if you’re not. There’s over half a gram of caffeine a day in Next Gen, and if you have a weak tolerance you can expect headaches, nausea, dizziness and a whole host of other problems.

The Yohimbine is the other thing I wanted to talk about. As it uses 40mg, chances are it’s going to be using too much for you. The negative effects you can expect are anxiety, hypertension and gastrointestinal distress. Be careful.

Is there anything better out there?

Definitely.

We’ve scoured the market for the best fat burners that promote:

  • Calorie Burning
  • Energy
  • Fat Loss
  • Appetite Suppression

And we’ve narrowed it down to just three.

Hydroxycut Hardcore Next Gen Review Conclusion

After weighing it all up, although this product has no proprietary blends it is still a stimulative roller coaster. I think the jitters Next Gen creates greatly outweighs any benefit it would have towards a fat burning goal.

That said, it’s not all bad, there are some good ingredients in here like Green Coffee – and that’s a major contributor.

It’s just a shame that the yohimbine and the caffeine was so unbalanced, and that ruined it for us.

If you feel you’ve got a handle on your caffeine intake, and think you can put up with the side effects of the Yohimbine by all means go for it. But there’s far better products out there.
