Review Overview – What does Black Ops do?
Black Ops by Grenade describes itself as an ‘elite weight management system, possessing unique simulating and cognitive effects – aiming to benefit both mental physical performance.
However we find ourselves skeptical to these claims that they are unique. A lot of fat burners dabble in both mental and physical stimulants. We need to find out what it is in particular that separates Black Ops from other fat burners out there on the market.
In the main features Black Ops claims to:
- Increase Energy
- Burn Fat
- Enhance Focus
As we’ve said before, this seems to be nothing new compared to what else we’ve seen on the market.
If it had something that suppresses appetite, we’d be more impressed.
How does Black Ops work?
If you’re taking Black Ops, you’re directed to take 2 capsules as soon as you wake up and then either:
- 2 more 30 minutes prior to lunch
Or
- 2 more before a workout
Depending how your gym schedule is set up.
We don’t agree with these kind of servings. We believe there should be 4 servings a day of a fat burner to ensure any thermogenesis or metabolic rises are kept consistent throughout the day to avoid any energy crashes later on.
That aside, let’s look to the ingredients:
There’s a lot to cover here so we’re going to run through our highlights, starting with the 5mg of Vitamin B6.
Yes, B6 is a great choice for a fat burning product. It helps turn glycogen in the body into glucose via a process known as glyconeogenesis. This new glucose can be used by the body for energy and increases it’s metabolic rate.
Then it was the microencapsulated caffeine but 295mg per 2 caps is a bit strong…
The microencapsulation side of this doesn’t make it any more effective, it just works as a film around the caffeine to avoid any bitter tastes.
We’re well aware that caffeine is an effective stimulant and can greatly increase wakefulness and alertness, however, if there are 2 servings of this product per day: we’re getting close to consuming 600mg of caffeine in a 6 hour period – if you stick to Grenade’s serving schedule at least. It’s the equivalent to having six cups of strong coffee – before lunch. Let that sink in.
400mg was deemed a safe daily amount in studies, but anything over that can lead to trouble. If you have a low tolerance to caffeine, right off the bat we’ll tell you to give this one a miss.
However the 250mg of Cayenne Pepper brought us back on side.
That’s a lot of chili, and the thermogenic properties of it are through the roof. This amount your body would definitely feel, your body would burn a lot of calories to regulate itself after ingesting this capsicum rich nutrient.
Choline has been seen to produce cognitive effects, however the dosage doesn’t meet the criteria.
Choline is usually found in egg yolks in very small amounts. However, when used in larger doses it has been seen to improve cognitive function.
Cognitive enhancement has been recorded to be most evident between servings of 1-2g. The 500mg from the daily dose of grenade unfortunately doesn’t come close.
Green tea on the other hand was very much appreciated, although we were a little disappointed that there was only 100mg.
Green tea is one of the best natural ingredients you can find in a fat burner. As the green tea is caffeinated, it gives you a stimulating kick, but really it’s more about the catechins. The catechins in green tea promotes norepinephrine in the body, which is the body’s fat burning hormone.
This gives the body a thermogenic boost and helps burn calories for as long as the green tea is active.
The 20mg of Blue Green Algae also made an impact with us – however was it enough?
Commonly used by vegans as a source of protein and B12. In certain studies this algae has been seen to increase muscle endurance and power output after being absorbed into the body.
Blue green algae has been seen to help protect the brain and reduce liver fat. Although this is all sounds well and good, standard doses that prove these effects range from 1-3g. Not 20mg, this effects the potency of the nutrient a lot, and may even render it ineffective.

Side Effects?
One of the main concerns that we have with Black Ops is the excessive amounts caffeine. If you’re not tolerant to large amounts of stimulants, you may have a serious problem when taking Black Ops, especially when sticking to Grenade’s serving schedule.

Grenade Black Ops Review Conclusion
To be honest, Black Ops disappointed us. Every time we found something good in the ingredients, we found something bad to balance it out. Which was really unfortunate.
There was no effort to suppress appetite in this product. And the caffeine in Black Ops is out of control. You can expect jitters and nausea if you don’t have a good tolerance.
Many of the cognitive enhancing nutrients were under-dosed, so the chances of them actually working were slim.
Also the fact that they used barely any green tea seemed to sabotage most of the fat burning properties in this product.
In our opinion there are better products out there.
